1 – Formalities at the entrance and the exit

During your stay in Algeria, you benefit from the free of duties and taxes, for effects and personal items that include all new or used items that you need for your personal use during your trip, excluding any merchandise imported for commercial purposes.

2 – Total deduction of duties and taxes

Goods and personal effects with a value of less than 20 000 DA are admitted free of duty

3 – Customs tolerances

In terms of tobacco, alcohol and perfumes, travelers entering
the customs territory, benefit from duty-free admission
for the following quantities:

Tobacco: 200 Cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars
Alcohols: 2 liters of wine or 1 liter of spirits
Perfumes: 50 grams of perfumes or ¼ liter of eau de toilette

4 – Flat rate tax:

Objects and personal effects as defined in the customs sense, declared and admitted in addition to the 20 000 DA can benefit under the franchises and tolerances to a flat tax within the limit of 50 000 DA.

Are excluded from the benefit of flat-rate taxation, when their number and quantity exceed the reasonable needs, the following articles:

Clothing effects, rugs, cosmetics, costume jewelery
Photo film, audio and video tapes
Food products for human and animal consumption, dried fruit, fresh or canned.

5 -Deposit of capital and goods:

Banknotes or other means of payment can be imported without limitation of amount.

Henceforth travelers are not subject to the obligation of exchange at the borders.
However, at the entrance of the national territory, the traveler must declare the banknotes, the means of payment as well as the jewels, gold, platinum and silver, on a printed form some of which is preserved by the customs services.

If you arrive from abroad with dutiable goods and taxes, but you do not have, for the clearance of the necessary amount or the special administrative authorization, your goods are deposited in the stores belonging to customs.

You have 2 months to proceed with their customs clearance (4 months for goods subject to special administrative authorization).

At the exit, it will be requested the declaration of foreign currency initially issued at the entry and annotated of all the operations of deposit or exchange made in Algeria and possibly the remaining currencies.

6 – Temporary admission:
For a fixed-term stay, certain objects or effects for personal use may benefit from a suspension of duties and taxes through a temporary admission procedure. This said operation, subscribed on the backlog of assets, concerns in particular besides the personal effects, the animals, the vehicles with 2 wheels, trailers, caravans, boats, aircrafts.

7 – Tourist Maps:
Vehicles, caravans, airplanes and boats are admitted free of duty. To this effect, a tourist card, valid for three months and recording all the vehicle identification information and information about the stay (duration, date, deadline, registration number and visa) is issued on arrival by the Customs offices. The traveler must take out compulsory border insurance. The international insurance card is not allowed.

8 – Exchange control:
At the exit, it will be requested the declaration of foreign currency initially issued at the entry and annotated of all the operations of deposit or exchange made in Algeria and possibly the remaining currencies.

9 – Mode of acquisition of the ticket:

For the settlement of your bills relating to your stay, some
establishments (hotels, restaurants) accept credit cards.
And for non-resident travelers, any ticket must be
paid in convertible currency.
